How we compare

How this fits with your CPA and your tools.

Isn’t this what my CPA does?

A CPA ensures your taxes pass the health inspection. We ensure your daily food costs, labor, and margins are tracked perfectly so you actually have profit left to protect.

Budgeting and forecasting look ahead, while tax work looks back. We build the plan from your books and coordinate with your CPA at year end. We don’t prepare tax returns.

Software or a person?

Budgeting software and templates show you numbers. They don’t build the assumptions, tie them to your books every month, or tell you what to change. That’s the part we do.

What it costs

Budgeting and cash flow forecasting are part of our Fractional CFO level, which typically starts at $2500 per month, depending on the size and scope of your restaurant. It includes everything in CFO Foundations and Bookkeeping+.

Common questions

Restaurant budgeting and forecasting, answered.

What is restaurant budgeting?

Restaurant budgeting means setting a monthly plan for sales, food and beverage cost, labor, and fixed expenses, based on your own history, so you know your targets before the month starts. Each month the plan is compared with your actual results to show where you are off and why.

What is restaurant cash flow management?

It means tracking when money actually comes in and goes out, including payroll, vendor payments, taxes and loan payments, so you know how much cash you will have in the weeks ahead. Profit on paper and cash in the bank are not the same thing.

What is a 13-week cash flow forecast, and why do restaurants use one?

It projects your cash week by week for the next quarter. Restaurants use it because payroll, vendor payments and sales taxes land on specific dates, and a shortfall is easier to fix when you see it weeks ahead.

How is a forecast different from a budget?

A budget is your plan for the year. A forecast is your best estimate of what is coming, updated as results come in. The budget sets targets, and the forecast shows whether you are on track to hit them.

Why does my restaurant run short of cash when sales look fine?

Sales are not cash. Payroll, vendor bills, sales tax, loan payments, equipment and owner draws all leave your account on their own schedule, and a slow week can leave a gap even in a profitable month. A cash flow forecast shows that gap before it arrives.

How much does restaurant budgeting and forecasting cost?

Budgeting and cash flow forecasting are part of Fractional CFO, which typically starts at $2500 per month, depending on the size and scope of the restaurant. It includes everything in CFO Foundations and Bookkeeping+. Multiple locations are quoted separately. Book a free conversation to see what fits.

Do I need bookkeeping first?

It comes with the service. A budget and forecast are only as good as your books, so every level, including Fractional CFO, includes the monthly bookkeeping.

What do I need to get started?

Access to your QuickBooks Online account and your POS and payroll data. If your books are behind, we can talk about catching them up first.

Can you help me prepare for a loan or a second location?

Yes. Financing preparation, scenario support for major decisions, and pre-sale or exit support are part of Fractional CFO. We build the numbers a lender or partner will ask for and show what a second location would do to your cash.

Will you work with my CPA?

Yes. We coordinate with your CPA at year end so they start from clean financials. We don’t prepare tax returns.

Where are you based, and do you work with restaurants outside Oregon?
